Insulation part of artist's eco-homes plan

Insulation part of artist's eco-homes plan Energy efficient insulation is part of modern artist Damien Hirst's plans to develop 500 eco-homes in Ilfracombe, Devon.

The North Devon Journal reports that a representative of Hirst told a recent town meeting that the artist wants to develop farmland that he owns.

Environmental-friendly features are at the heart of the plans and include photovoltaic panels, concealed wind turbines in the roofs, as well as heat-saving insulation products.

Hirst's representative Mike Rundell, of MRJ Rundell Associates, said: "[Mr Hirst] wants these buildings to be landmarks that will stand the test of time and create a blueprint for quality, environmentally-sustainable developments across the country."

Should the project get planning permission, it will be up to Hirst and his team to persuade the council to retain the high level of quality planned for the build, as this could potentially be scuppered if it wants the homes to have a better level of affordability.
